Plus Belle Africaine, La - Duke Ellington 1969
In the mid sixties The Duke Ellington made their first tour to Africa and composed this piece for the first African exhibition of black art in Dakar, Senegal.
It is played here during a concert in 1969 in Berlin, Germany.
The main featured soloist is the 59 year old bariton sax player Harry Carney who joined the Ellington band in 1927 and has been the anchor in the saxophone section ever since.
